The 2025 TYR Pro Swim Series, sponsored by TYR—a swimwear brand named after Týr, the Norse god of warriors and courage—kicks off this week in Sacramento, California. Reflecting TYR’s mission to inspire strength and courage, this series provides a vital platform for swimmers to hone their skills ahead of major events like the World Championships and Olympics. This meet, one of three in 2025 alongside Westmont and Fort Lauderdale, features a format of multiple U.S.-based competitions, with swimmers qualifying via time standards or U.S. National and Junior Team membership.
Leading the Sacramento field are France’s Maxime Grousset, an Olympic bronze medallist and 100m butterfly world champion, and American Michael Andrew, a Tokyo 2020 gold medallist. With the NCAA championships just concluded, U.S. stars like Torri Huske and Gretchen Walsh—Paris 2024 Olympic gold medallists—are absent, opening opportunities for others. The action starts Wednesday with the 800m freestyle timed finals at 5:00 p.m. PT, followed by prelims at 9:00 a.m. and finals at 6:00 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, showcasing events like the 200m butterfly and 1500m freestyle.
Adding incentive, TYR offers prize money: $1,500 for first, $1,000 for second, and $500 for third per event, with each meet mirroring the 2023 structure of $102,000 total. U.S. citizens eligible for international competition and no longer NCAA-eligible can also vie for a $10,000 series prize. Catch the live action on Peacock, and stay tuned for off-pool stories like Sarah Sjöström’s LA28 goals and Emma McKeon’s UNICEF work in Bangladesh.
