Celebrate Creativity at Sacramento’s Premier Chalk Art and Music Festival
As summer fades and Labor Day weekend approaches, Sacramento’s Fremont Park will once again transform into a vibrant hub of creativity and community for the 34th Annual Chalk It Up! Chalk Art & Music Festival. From Saturday, August 31st to Monday, September 2nd, 2024, this beloved festival invites you to experience the magic of live chalk art, local music, and family-friendly fun from 10 AM to 6 PM each day.
Established in 1991 by a dedicated group of local artists and community supporters, Chalk It Up! has grown into a cornerstone of Sacramento’s cultural scene. This three-day event celebrates the region’s artistic talent, featuring hundreds of artists who turn the sidewalks of Fremont Park into a colorful canvas of chalk murals. This year, the festival proudly showcases Clif Gold’s “Silly Sloth” as the official festival icon, adorning posters, signage, and t-shirts.
Visitors can watch in awe as artists begin their murals on Friday afternoon or early Saturday morning, working diligently to complete their masterpieces by noon on Monday. Each mural, a temporary testament to creativity, adds to the festival’s lively atmosphere. Alongside the visual art, the Chalk It Up! stage will feature live performances by local musicians, providing the perfect soundtrack for a weekend of artistic exploration.
The festival offers more than just art and music. A local Maker’s Mart will showcase a variety of vendors, artists, food trucks, and drinks, including local brews from the Chalk It Up! Drinks Tent. Kids can pick up free sidewalk chalk from the Information Booth and create their own masterpieces on the park’s interior sidewalks, while adults can relax in the shaded picnic areas or enjoy refreshments in the 21-and-over Drinks Tent.
Admission to Chalk It Up! is free, making it accessible for everyone to enjoy. The festival’s location at Fremont Park, between 15th and 16th, and P and Q Streets, provides a beautiful setting with ample shade and a playground for the kiddos. Parking is limited, so visitors are encouraged to use the nearby S+P Parking Lot, public transportation, or the complimentary Bike Valet Parking provided by Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates.
Join us for a weekend of art, music, and community spirit at the 34th Annual Chalk It Up! Festival. Support local artists, musicians, and vendors, and be part of a Sacramento tradition that celebrates creativity and brings people together. See you at Fremont Park!
