Kick Off Your Sunday Shoes! Footloose Dances Onto the Music Circus Stage in 2025
Get ready to cut loose, Sacramento! The high-energy, toe-tapping sensation Footloose is bringing its electrifying music and infectious spirit to Broadway At Music Circus from March 21–27, 2025. If you’ve ever felt the urge to dance like nobody’s watching, this is your chance to do it—because this production is going to be a showstopper!
Based on the hit 1984 film that had everyone hitting the dance floor, Footloose tells the story of Ren McCormack, a city teen who moves to a small town where dancing is outlawed. With powerhouse songs like “Let’s Hear It for the Boy,” “Holding Out for a Hero,” “I’m Free (Heaven Helps the Man),” and, of course, “Footloose,” this musical is a celebration of youth, rebellion, and the joy of cutting loose.
Broadway Sacramento Expands Year-Round Theatre Programming
In an exciting development, Broadway Sacramento has reached an agreement with the Sacramento Theatre Company (STC) to expand its programming beyond its traditional summer season. This means more shows, more opportunities to enjoy professional musical theatre, and more reasons to celebrate the performing arts in Sacramento.
For nearly 75 years, Broadway Sacramento and STC have shared a campus at 15th and H Streets. While STC has brought wonderful productions to the city for decades, rising costs have made it difficult for them to continue. As a result, Broadway Sacramento will now be the sole operator of the theatre complex, ensuring that live, professional theatre continues to thrive in the community.
“This is a bittersweet moment,” said STC Board President Betsy Wood. “We are proud of our legacy, and while we are sad to make this transition, we fully support Broadway Sacramento’s expansion.”
Broadway Sacramento Board Chair Dr. Jacqueline M. Calkin echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the company’s commitment to maintaining year-round theatre programming. “We take this responsibility seriously and look forward to continuing to bring world-class productions to Sacramento audiences.”
More Musicals, More Magic: The Expanded 2025 Broadway At Music Circus Season
With this new expansion, Broadway At Music Circus is set to feature an unprecedented eight productions spanning from March through December 2025:
• Footloose (March 21–27)
• Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (April 11–17)
• Million Dollar Quartet (May 30–June 5)
• Hello, Dolly! (June 20–26)
• West Side Story (July 11–17)
• In the Heights (August 1–7)
• Hair (August 22–28)
• Irving Berlin’s White Christmas (December 5–11)
For season ticket holders, renewal materials were sent out the week of November 18, with a renewal deadline of January 10. General ticket sales for both season packages and individual shows opened on February 3.
A Bright Future for Sacramento Theatre
With the Broadway Sacramento Conservatory offering musical theatre training for young performers, and the company’s commitment to attracting national audiences, Sacramento’s theatre scene is poised for an exciting new chapter.
As Broadway Sacramento President/CEO Scott Klier puts it, “Our goal is to make Sacramento a true theatre destination—one that continues to grow and thrive.”
So, get ready to dance, sing, and celebrate! With Footloose leading the charge, 2025 is shaping up to be a spectacular year for theatre in Sacramento. Grab your tickets, put on your dancing shoes, and join the excitement!
